AUSSIE MADE ONLY. SHOPPING GUIDE

There's been a growing conversation around shopping local, but "Australian brand" can mean a lot of different things.

As more local labels become part of international fashion groups, finding brands that are still Australian owned has become increasingly meaningful for shoppers who want to support homegrown businesses.

Some brands are designed here but owned overseas. Others are founded by Australians but manufacture internationally. Then there are labels that are genuinely Australian owned, built from the ground up by founders who saw a gap in the market and backed themselves.

This isn't a guide to where every garment is made. That's a different conversation. This is about celebrating the brands that started here, are still Australian owned, and continue to shape Australian fashion.

Here are five labels worth knowing.

One Of Others

One Of Others is the Melbourne label doing quiet, seasonless dressing better than almost anyone right now. Known for clean tailoring, elevated basics and thoughtful design, every collection feels considered rather than trend driven. It's the kind of brand you build a wardrobe around, not just buy into for one season.

Arcina Ori

Arcina Ori has become one of Australia's biggest contemporary fashion success stories. Founder Zoe Calodoukas launched the Sydney label in 2020 with a self-taught eye for vintage inspired silhouettes, and in just a few years it has developed an international following. Worn by everyone from brides to fashion influencers, it's proof an Australian founder can build a globally recognised label without losing its identity.

My Mum Made It

Few Australian fashion stories started quite like this one.

Founder Nyree Leckenby began sewing dresses from op shop curtains and vintage bedsheets in Brisbane, creating playful pieces that quickly found an audience online. Today the label has been worn by Addison Rae, Olivia Rodrigo and Clairo, yet it still feels unmistakably Australian in both personality and spirit.

Camilla and Marc

Camilla and Marc is one of the names that helped define modern Australian luxury fashion.

Founded by siblings Camilla Freeman Topper and Marc Freeman, the label debuted at Australian Fashion Week in 2003 and has remained Australian owned ever since. Best known for refined tailoring and modern femininity, it has become a wardrobe staple for women looking to invest in timeless pieces.

Bèl Atelier

Bèl Atelier may be the newest label on this list, but its story is no less impressive.

Founder Eloise Mummé launched the resort wear brand in 2021 after years of dreaming about building her own label. The collections balance relaxed Australian style with elevated craftsmanship, making it one of the emerging brands to keep on your radar.

Australian fashion has never lacked creativity. What it sometimes lacks is recognition for the founders building brands from scratch, often without the backing of global luxury groups.

These five labels all started with someone backing an idea. Today they're proof that Australian fashion isn't just producing great designers. It's producing brands the rest of the world wants to wear.

With love (and frankness),
