ITS TIME TO PUT THE BLOWOUT DOWN (SOMETIMES)

I love a good blowout as much as anyone, but lately I've found myself reaching for my straightener a lot more. Not because I'm straightening my hair, but because I think the waves it creates look so much better than a perfectly polished curl.

For a while it felt like every hairstyle had to look freshly done. Big bouncy blowouts, perfectly uniform curls and not a strand out of place. Now, I keep noticing hair that feels a little more relaxed. It's softer, slightly messy and has that "I just have good hair" quality that in my opinion, looks more expensive than hair that's obviously been styled.

That's exactly why I keep coming back to straightener waves. They create a looser bend through the hair that never looks too perfect. A curling wand always gives me a curl, but a straightener gives me texture, and I think that's the difference. It feels more lived in without looking messy.

Straightener waves are surprisingly easy to master. Twist the straightener away from your face as you glide down each section, alternating directions to keep the finish relaxed rather than uniform. Don't worry if every piece doesn't match because that's what makes the finished look feel effortless rather than overdone.

I'm definitely not breaking up with blowouts. I'll still book one before a wedding, a birthday or anything where I want my hair to last all day. But for everyday hair, I've quietly switched sides.

If you've only ever used your straightener to straighten your hair, I think you're missing its best feature.

With love (and frankness),
